Hundreds of drivers abandoned their cars on a busy highway and rushed to
the road with cups, jars and thermos bottles -- to scoop up some of the
23,000 gallons of beer that were gushing across the highway! The foaming
brew flooded the road when a beer truck blew a tire and overturned about
halfway between the cities of Kamen and Hannover in Germany. "I don't
even like beer all that much," said one frenzied driver who joined in the
action. "But it seemed like such a waste. When I saw everyone else was
doing it, I just couldn't resist trying to get some myself." Finally, a
heavy downpour ended the festivities. "It was a great day," said Hermann
Schmidt, one of the party animals. "I was heading for work, and wound up
at the beer bash instead!"
